Wednesday's racing tips: Wednesday longshots to fill your pockets at Newbury and Lingfield from Jack Keene

December 20, 2018

Maybe it's my new found obsession with deep-filled mince pies. I'm not sure whether it's the thought of them which has my mouth watering or if it's my appetite for a big-priced winner.

JUST YOUR TYPE (1.40 Newbury) looks one to keep on side for Charlie Longsdon.

The well-bred mare, who comes from the family of top NH performers Boychuk and Golden Chieftain, showed smart form in three starts over hurdles last term.

She ran fourth in a Grade 2 before winning by a wide-margin at Hereford, and the six-year-old shaped with a good deal of promise behind Albert Bartlett hero Kilbricken Storm on chase debut.

That outing will have blown away the cobwebs, she stays all day and looks on a good mark now switched to a limited handicap.

1.40 Newbury – Just Your Type: 'Encouraging chase debut and good be well-weighted now going handicapping'

1.50 Lingfield – The Special One: 'Drop back in trip looks a good move on her debut for new yard'

At leafy Lingfield, the somewhat topically named THE SPECIAL ONE (1.50) can strike at the first time of asking for Phil McEntee.

The five-year-old filly is usually a consistent performer, but she ran no sort of race when last sighted for a different yard.

McEntee is a dab-hand at getting these exposed types to rediscover their best form, and she is certainly weighted to go well having run a close second off this mark here earlier this year.

She is fitted with a hood and drops back to 6f, which could be a shrewd move given that she hasn't really been seeing her races out over further of late.

Like London buses…

After a run of near-misses and frustrating results, we've banged in two winners in two days.

DRAGON BEAT did the business at Wolves on Monday night, winning at 7-2 having been backed in from 8-1.

Then along came ETERNAL SUN who bolted up at 16-1 at Southwell on Tuesday. Happy days.
