Wayne Rooney QUITS Derby, Man City reach £42m agreement for Kalvin Phillips, PSG 'must sell Neymar by NEXT FRIDAY' | The Sun

June 24, 2022

WAYNE ROONEY has quit his job as Derby manager, a month after being relegated from the Championship.

He said: “It’s time for me to leave the club. The club tried tremendously hard to change my decision but my mind was made up."

Manchester City, meanwhile, have reportedly reached a deal with Leeds for the £42million transfer of Kalvin Phillips.

PSG must sell Neymar by next Friday or give him an automatic new five-year contract worth £600,000-a-week, according to reports.

The Parisians are said to be keen on building a more "humble" squad made of local players, but one of Neymar's agents said he is still dreaming of winning the Champions League with PSG.

    Phill your boots

Man City have reached an agreement with Leeds to sign midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to reports.

Pep Guardiola is looking to replace club captain Fernandinho, who departs at the end of the month.

And according to The Athletic, City have agreed to pay Leeds £42million plus an additional £3m in add-ons for Phillips.

Phillips was City's major midfield target this summer, stepping up their interest after confirming the signing of attacking sensation Erling Haaland.

The 26-year-old England international is currently on holiday and is due to return to Leeds for pre-season on July 4.

However, progress with the transfer to the Premier League champions could see the deal be finalised next week.

Jesus and Raphinha ‘more important’ than Youri

Arsenal have reportedly prioritised the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha over Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners are still keen on Leicester city midfielder Tielemans, but want to recruit Man City ace Jesus and Leeds star Raphinha first,

That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

He told Caught Offside: “Arsenal have long had contacts with the player’s camp and with Leicester but have not made official offers so far.

“Talks are still on, but they are not at the key stages yet because the club is focused on Gabriel Jesus as a priority and is trying to compete for Raphinha, two deals on which you need to be quick.”

    Tottenham hold ‘Zaniolo interest’

Tottenham hold an interest in Roma whizkid Nicolo Zaniolo, TOM BARCLAY WRITES.

Spurs managing director of football Fabio Paratici is currently in Milan and held a meeting with Roma director Tiago Pinto where a possible move for Zaniolo was discussed.

Antonio Conte would like to add to his attack and winger Zaniolo, 22, is being considered along with a host of other options.

A versatile forward who could play out wide and through the middle, such as Everton’s Richarlison, would be beneficial.

But that does not mean Spurs would not go for a player who can only play out wide and not as a striker, such as Leeds’ Raphinha or Zaniolo.

Should the latter case come to pass, then it is possible the North London club could also move for another striker to serve as back-up to Harry Kane.

    Borna Blue

Chelsea can secure Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa for £21million this summer, according to reports.

The Blues have already seen Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen depart since the end of the season.

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also being linked with a move to Barcelona.

And left-back Marcos Alonso has reportedly told the club he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

The loss of Alonso would leave Chelsea short in the left-back position, with Ben Chilwell still recovering from a serious cruciate ligament injury.

And Sosa, 24, could plug that gap as he has shown the ability to play at left-back and left wingback.

Boehly is reportedly set to hand Tuchel a £200million transfer warchest, with the potential for more funds to be made available through player sales.

    Car to remain parked

Club Brugge have turned down the chance to sign Andy Carroll on a free transfer due to the results of his medical tests, according to reports.

The striker, 33, will be a free agent when his short-term contract with West Brom expires at the end of this month.

And while the Belgian side were willing to offer him a deal, which would have potentially seen him make his Champions League debut, they are now no longer interested.

That is according to Belgium-based outlet HLN, which claims that the club were not convinced by his ‘insufficient’ medical test results.

As a result, they will not offer him a trial.

"They are not going to sign both Raphina and Richarlison. But they are discussing for both of them.”

“For Raphinha, they are in direct contact with Leeds.
