UFC 254 main card revealed including Khabib Nurmagomedov taking on Justin Gaethje in main event and five other fightsSeptember 28, 2020
KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV'S highly-anticipated clash with Justin Gaethje will main-event a six-fight special at UFC 254.
The unbeaten Russian faces the Highlight – who won the interim belt in May – in a lightweight unification on Fight Island next month.
Khabib's scrap against the American on Fight Island on October 24 is his first since the death of his father and trainer Abdulmanap.
Abdulmanap died aged 57 in July following complications after contracting coronavirus.
Khabib last competed at UFC 242 in September 2019, where the Eagle retained his lightweight crown with a submission win over Dustin Poirier.
His opponent Gaethje, who will enter the showdown on a four-fight win streak, has vowed to make the champion see blood.
Elsewhere, former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will take on Jared Cannonier in the UFC 254 co-main event.
The 29-year-old impressively beat Darren Till at UFC's Fight Island 3 in July to bounce back from his loss to Israel Adesanya.
And a win over surging contender Cannonier is likely to set up another title fight against the Last Stylebender following his TKO win over Paulo Costa.
Meanwhile, heavyweight duo Walt Harris and Alexander Volkov will both be looking to bounce back from recent losses against Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes respectively against each other.
Rafael dos Anjos will return to lightweight for the first time since a November 2016 loss to Tony Ferguson to face Islam Makhachev.
The Brazilian has endured a rough welterweight tenure and will return to his original weight class where he hasn't won since 2015.
The women's flyweight division will also be screened when Cynthia Calvillo (9-1-1) steps up to face Lauren Murphy (13-4).
And finally, Magomed Ankalaev has been re-booked against Ion Cutelaba for the fifth time, with the pair's most recent scheduled scrap in August postponed due to coronavirus.
