Tottenham next manager odds: Rodgers, Nagelsmann and Howe in the mix to replace Mourinho after Everton defeat

BRENDAN RODGERS is the favourite to replace Jose Mourinho after another defeat for Tottenham.

Leicester boss Rodgers is now 5/4 favourite after the extra time defeat to Everton in the FA Cup.

Rodgers is followed by Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe and Max Allegri with Scott Parker and Rafa Benitez also in the running, according to Betfair.

Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl had been second favourite at 5/1, but is no longer in the mix according to Betfair's market.

Mourinho is now the 2/1 favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked.

Tottenham were dumped out of the FA Cup last night by Everton and face Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday.

They did beat West Brom 2-0 at the weekend to keep their European hopes alive, but had lost three Premier League games in a row before that.

Mourinho's sides are usually resolute defensively however conceding five to Everton showcased more problems within his team.

And the Portuguese lamented the mistakes made but said he was pleased with their attacking play.

Mourinho told BT Sport after the game: "I enjoyed it, and I didn't enjoy it. I enjoyed the way we played when we had the ball, from the first minute, immediately. We scored four goals and four goals was not enough.

"If it hurts me [the lack of defending], it hurts everyone from our team because the feeling is that we played really well, when we had the ball we were brave, we created.

"We were the best team winning 1-0, and certainly in five minutes, there was, boom, boom, boom, mistake, mistake, mistake, goal, goal, goal.

"We fight back, we fight back again and there were more mistakes as we fight back again and that was, that was the mouse and the cat.

"The mouse was our defensive mistakes, and the cat was us trying to compensate that very well and it's a lot of effort."

However former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has slammed Mourinho's tactics and feels fans would not be willing to pay to watch the team play if stadiums were open.

He told Dream Team Coach TV: "In terms of Tottenham, they frustrate the life out of me. Mourinho, I get why he’s been brought in, to win trophies.

"He’s a serial winner and I totally understand that but surely you have to play a certain way?

"I know he got good results against City and Arsenal and people were but when you’re not winning and you’re playing the same against Brighton away, alarm bells are ringing for me.

“If I was a supporter and I went every week to watch Tottenham in that beautiful stadium with the stars that they’ve got and they’re basically playing six at the back and hoping Son and Kane can do something, and if they don’t we’re struggling.

"I don’t really want to go and pay my money to see that brand of football. They can play a different way and still win games.

"They are such a talented squad, I think they could play a totally different brand of football."
