Tottenham in Jannik Vestergaard transfer talks as one of two new defenders as club prepare for Toby Alderweireld exitJuly 6, 2021
TOTTENHAM are reportedly in talks with Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard as Nuno Espirito Santo eyes up two new defenders.
The 28-year-old has impressed in the Premier League since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2018, while he has starred at Euro 2020 for Denmark.
Spurs are looking to bolster their backline with Toby Alderweireld believed to be seeking an exit away from North London.
And according to The Times, the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon all face an uncertain future.
They state that Vestergaard has emerged as a potential recruit with Spurs in talks to sign the player, who has entered the last year of his contract at St Mary's.
It has been suggested that the Saints value the ex-Werder Bremen ace at more than the £18million they paid for him three years ago.
Meanwhile the Daily Mail add that Vestergaard's Denmark team-mate Joachim Andersen is also on Tottenham's radar as a possible replacement for Alderweireld.
The 25-year-old, understood to be worth around £25m, spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Fulham from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
And the former Sampdoria man is said to be unwilling to return to the French club.
Bologna's Takehiro Tomiyasu is also appealing to Spurs as he can play at either centre or right-back.

The Mail state that the Japanese ace has already been the subject of a failed £12.9m bid from Santo's side.
Spurs are claimed to be reluctant to meet the Serie A club's £17.2m price tag, and are only prepared to pay up to £15.5m.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly chasing Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who could be available on a free.
The Blaugrana are struggling financially, with newly re-elected club president Joan Laporta desperate to get players off the wage bill.
