Stephen Bunting and Danny Baggish stitch up darts pal with ‘birthday’ surprise

Stephen Bunting and Danny Baggish pulled together to leave Ross Smith red-faced during a trip to a restaurant in the US.

Bunting and Smith travelled to the US to meet up with darts pal and American colleague Baggish, who teamed up to pull a welcome prank on ‘Smudger’. Bunting and Smith hopped across the pond after crashing out of the World Matchplay last week, with the Bullet losing to Gerwyn Price and Smith finding Dimitri van den Bergh too tough.

The pair must’ve thought they were going to have time to relax after a disappointing Matchplay campaign, but Baggish had different ideas as the trio visited a restaurant. Baggish posted a clip to his Twitter page with the caption: “Ross Smith happy birthday and welcome to the states. I had to do it. Disclaimer it wasn’t his birthday”.

He started by filming restaurant staff who walked up to the table where all three dartists were sat before asking: “Is it somebody’s birthday over here?”

Baggish quipped “Yes it is” before pointing at a confused Smith. The staff then double-checked with Bunting whose birthday it was before he clocked the prank and pointed at Smith who was sitting next to him.

The world number 17 then let out a huge sigh and put his head in his hands as staff called out to get the restaurant's attention that there was a birthday in the house, leaving ‘the Bullet’ with a smile the length of his face.

Smith’s cheeks quickly turned redder after the staff started chanting “Saddle Up!” as Bunting moved out of the way for Smith to take a seat at the end of the table.

He was then told to take a napkin and after the staff counted to three and shouted: “Yeehaww,” Smith released his inner cowboy as he swung the napkin above his head, leaving Bunting and Baggish in stitches.

Smith’s embarrassment was comforted by the bowl of ice cream he was given for being the ‘birthday’ boy, just six months before he turns 35 for real in January.
