‘Slap in the face' – Ex-Arsenal captain Koscielny fumes over Bordeaux exile as club reveal he will be sold this month

January 15, 2022

LAURENT KOSCIELNY has expressed his frustrations after being excluded from the first team at Bordeaux.

The 36-year-old former Arsenal captain has only made 11 appearances so far this season due to injury issues and continues to be left out of the squad.

According to L'Equipe, Koscielny is incredibly unhappy with the rejection and said: “I have taken it badly.

"It was a right slap in the face.”

The news comes just days after it was reported that the Frenchman was stripped of his captaincy.

And now things have gone from bad to worse for the defender as the French side have revealed that they will be selling him this month.

In a recent interview, Bordeaux president Gerard Lopez said: "We are not attacking the player or the person, but it is decided that Laurent will not finish the season with us and he will leave the club in January.

"I think that he can still play football so if we can help him to keep playing, he will leave as a player.

"He has this right to convert into something else (as a coach – at the club) too, maybe a bit later.

"There are a number of possibilities, they are all on the table."

Koscielny's wages are reportedly the highest on the French side's books which is one of the main reasons for his sale, along with poor form.

Bordeaux have struggled this season and are currently in a relegation battle.

They have the worst defensive record in Ligue 1 with 44 goals conceded.

Koscielny cause outrage when walked out of Arsenal in 2019 after he went AWOL for their pre-season tour of America.

He forced through a £4.6million move to Bordeaux after nine years service with the Gunners.

And then further angered Arsenal fans with a video showing him ripping off the Arsenal shirt and tossing it away to reveal the Bordeaux kit.
