Red Sox woes continue as Nathan Eovaldi set for elbow surgery
April 23, 2019The already suffering Red Sox didn’t need this.
Starter Nathan Eovaldi, who received a reported four-year, $68 million contract his offseason, will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow, according to The Athletic. It’s a procedure he’s had before, missing two months in 2018 while with the Tampa Bay Rays, though this time it will only cost him 4-6 weeks.
The 29-year-old righty was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, following his best start of the season: a six-inning outing against the Yankees in which he gave up an unearned run.
Boston, second-to-last in the AL East at 9-13 entering Monday, a year after winning the 2018 World Series, has struggled hard this season, Eovaldi included. The former Yankees hurler has yet to record a decision in four outings, with an ERA of 6.00.
