Because he’s a three-year-old he gets a whopping 6lb allowance from the older runners despite being the top-rated horse in the race. That can make all the difference in a contest where the margins will be tight.

Clive Cox’s flyer took a big step forward with that Diamond Jubilee Stakes success and has much more to offer at this early stage of his career.

Hello Youmzain looks a big threat after his battling success in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. He got up after being headed which is just what you want to see from a sprinter.

This will need another personal best but he’s clearly at the top of his game.

Sceptical was just a neck away in that hot contest and he’ll be right on the premises again under Frankie Dettori.

Oxted looks the pick of the bigger prices after a game Abernant Stakes success on the Rowley Mile here last month.

BRANDO 2

BRAN flakes. Group 3 winner at best but has come up short when pitched into this higher level. Showed promise on comeback at Newcastle last time when a little unlucky in the Chipchase. Trip suits but likely to come up short.

EQUILATERAL 2

LAT a bit flat. Ran a cracker over 5f behind the great Battaash in the King’s Stand last time and best recent form has been at that shorter trip. Needs to take another step forward to figure here.

HELLO YOUMZAIN 4

YOUM can zoom. Showed real guts to win the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot over this distance, getting up again after being headed. That was his second win at the highest level in three outings and he should be right there again with all ground coming the same to him.

KHAADEM 3

KHAA revved up. Solid fourth in the Diamond Jubilee last time coming back from a long break. Saves best for this trip and this track suits well. Capable of better but needs more to close the gap with the likes of Hello Youmzain and Sceptical.

NAMOS 2

MOS won’t boss. Has done well in German group races including when scoring over 7f at Dresden last time. It’s hard to weigh up that form compared to the home team and rain would help his chances as soft ground suits.

OXTED 3

TED talks. Ended last season well with a big handicap win at Doncaster and picked up again with a cosy Group 3 success on the Rowley Mile last month. Wouldn’t want rain as best form has come on fast ground. Could hit the frame.

SCEPTICAL 4

DON’T skip Scep. Came from nowhere to win a Naas Listed race and held his own with a close-up third in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot latest. This is just his seventh run so there should be much more to come and Frankie stays on board.

SHINE SO BRIGHT 1

BRIGHT a bit dull. Has tried various trips and 7f seemed to suit well enough when he finished a fair third at Epsom last time. This is a much hotter contest than that and he needs a big personal best to figure.

SIR DANCEALOT 2

NO Sir. Long time since he tackled this trip with his best form coming over a furlong further. Was well off the pace at Group 3 level here last time and must find old spark.

GOLDEN HORDE 5

GOLDEN boy. Stormed away with the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last time when hitting the front a long way out and powering home. This trip is ideal and he has decent form on any ground so it won’t matter what the weather does. Very much looks the one to beat again.

LORD OF THE LODGE 2

LODGE a complaint. Went close in a York Group 2 at his best last season before landing a modest contest on the all-weather at Newcastle. Ran a really flat race on comeback in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and doesn’t look up to this.

SOUTHERN HILLS 3

HILLS must rise. Won the Windsor Castle Stakes over 5f at last year’s Royal Ascot and had first run since then when midfield behind Golden Horde in the Commonwealth Cup last time. Was entitled to need that after a year off and should do a lot better today.

THREAT 2

MINOR Threat. Won a couple of Group 2s last term, including over this distance at York. Was stepped up to a mile for his first run this season in the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot. He didn’t perform there and this trip may suit better with the benefit of that comeback. Best on quick ground.
