Newcastle make improved Sven Botman transfer bid with Eddie Howe targeting Lille star to improve defenceJanuary 7, 2022
NEWCASTLE have made an increased offer for Lille defender Sven Botman, according to reports.
The Toon are desperate to strengthen their back line this month as they battle against the drop.
Their new Saudi owners sealed their first signing yesterday, bringing in Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for £12million.
And now they want to add centre-half Botman.
According to The Athletic, Botman is their 'first-choice target' at the back.
The Magpies have hiked up their original bid.
But Lille are yet to respond.
The reigning French champions are reluctant to sell their star defender.

But their dire financial situation could prompt a change of heart.
Lille face Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
Botman, 21, is under contract until 2025 – putting his club in a strong bargaining position.
The player himself, however, is interested in a move to the Premier League.
He joined Lille in 2020 from Heerenveen – playing 47 times last season in all competitions as they shocked Ligue 1 by winning the title.
It is likely to take an offer of £40m to tempt Lille into selling.
A number of teams are believed to be interested in making a bid in the summer, should Newcastle's pursuit be unsuccessful this month.
