Mourinho sacked: One-man car cleaning firm gets £1m free advertising as Man Utd give Jose the bootDecember 19, 2018
Manchester-based Auto Clean saw its brand beamed across the world in the wake of Mourinho's dismissal after two-and-a-half-years in charge at Old Trafford.
The main image on all the stories about his dumping all carried an image of the 55-year-old being driven in to United's Aon Training Centre this morning to learn his fate.
And smack in the middle of the snap was a car air freshener hanging from the rear-view mirror bearing the Auto Clean name.
It saw the firm gaining instant global attention – the kind major brands would pay an absolute fortune for if they were forking out for the same reach in advertising.
Andy Sutherden, Global Head of Sponsorship for international brand specialists Hill and Knowlton, said: "This amount of exposure in the UK alone would cost a company north of £1million.
"But Manchester United sacking a manager is global news so this main picture will have been seen all across the world.
"And if you wanted to pay for that reach it would cost several millions.
"Christmas will have come early for the owner of this firm and he's sure to get a full order book from people who have seen it and want their own car polished up.
"But unfortunately, despite getting such huge brand awareness it's unlikely the company will be in a position to ramp up and capitalise on their fame because, from the outside, it looks like they are only geared up to maximise in and around the Manchester area."
