Matt Chapman tips: I've unearthed a BIG outsider who can smash bookies on day two of Grand National Festival

Matt Chapman tips: I've unearthed a BIG outsider who can smash bookies on day two of Grand National Festival

April 7, 2022

THEY say fortune favours the brave — but not at Cheltenham!

Bravemansgame, the novice who was pulled out of the Festival at the last minute due to softening ground, now gets his chance on the big stage at Aintree.

But it won’t be easy.

In yet another small but select field for the Mildmay Novices’ Chase (2.55), Bravemansgame faces Brown Advisory one-two L’Homme Presse and Ahoy Senor as well as talented Irish raider Fury Road.

It’s the most intriguing event on Day 2 of the 2022 Grand National meeting.

L’HOMME PRESSE scampered clear of Ahoy Senor in the Brown Advisory to make it five wins on the trot.

I wasn’t totally sure about the seven-year-old until the Festival, but I loved the way he picked up once asked to go clear. He’s very good indeed.

I take him to see off Bravemansgame, who has looked a natural over fences for Paul Nicholls and is now both a Grade 1 winning hurdler and chaser.

The ITV coverage kicks off with a guest appearance from JONBON (2.20) in the Top Novices’ Hurdle.

I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t hack up for Aidan Coleman and Nicky Henderson.

The expensive relation to Douvan was unbeaten until being smashed by Constitution Hill in the Supreme.

I was stunned he went from the front that day and, if ridden with more restraint, he should be far too good for this lot.

Let’s have a few quid each-way on SAINT CALVADOS in the Marsh Chase.

Paul Nicholls’ runner was hopeless at Ascot last time but think back to his third in the King George over Christmas when the three-mile trip was beyond him.

That proved he still has some ability left and he’s big odds here if returning to form.

The runners go over the Grand National fences for the Topham Chase and SENIOR CITIZEN (4.05) has been creeping up the handicap ratings but must have an each-way chance for Adrian Heskin and Alan King.

The Grand Sefton runner-up has since finished a fine third behind Paint The Dream at Newbury although he was never placed to challenge that day. The nine-year-old has great place claims.

In our final race on ITV, the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle, I fancy CRYSTAL GLORY (4.40) to sparkle for Nicky Richards.

He was no match for Hillcrest at Haydock last time and was defeated at Newcastle the time before that. However, he looks a strong stayer and that means he has fine each-way claims under Sean Quinlan.

Conditions are ideal for a big run.

I’ll be back tomorrow with my Grand National thoughts and my top four. Don’t miss it. Yeeehaaa!
