Man Utd striker Anthony Martial 'wanted by Inter Milan' as transfer replacement for Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku

INTER MILAN want to sign Manchester United star Anthony Martial as Romelu Lukaku's replacement.

Inter are likely to lose Lukaku this summer after the star striker's former club Chelsea reportedly met the Italian champions' release clause.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Nerazzurri are getting ready for life after the Belgium international and have identified Martial as his ideal successor.

The Serie A giants want to take the talented forward initially on loan for the season.

United are likely to agree if Inter accept an obligation to buy the France international next year.

That is because the Red Devils are determined to recoup most of the £50million they paid Monaco to sign the 25-year-old six years ago.

Inter tried to acquire Martial in 2019 but the Frenchman ultimately stayed at Old Trafford.

However, the former Monaco star has been sidelined since March due to a ligament injury.

He then fell down the pecking order behind Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and now faces further competition from summer signing Jadon Sancho.

Rashford is expected to be out for three months due to shoulder surgery butMartial still has ways to go to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer recently said: "Anthony has had a bad spell with injuries.

"He’s been training well with us but as players who’ve been out for a while, they need some more sharpness, need some more work.

"He tried to do the right thing; it didn’t come off all the time, but it’s better than what you fear sometimes when he’s been injured for five months – since March."
