Man Utd player ratings: Shaw keeps Salah out of game and McTominay disciplined against Liverpool
February 24, 2019Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to use ALL his subs in the first half after Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard – who came off the bench – were hauled off with injuries.
DAVID DE GEA
Excellent distribution to get set up attacks in the first half when Rashford was fully fit.
But was not troubled by Liverpool’s attack – it did not need to be one of his memorable displays.
ASHLEY YOUNG
Poor backpass in first minute and seemed to be on different wavelength to his team-mates at times.
Improved in the second half and was a threat with his set-piece delivery.
CHRIS SMALLING
Picked ahead of Eric Bailly and had a tidy afternoon against Liverpool’s pacy attack. Good communicator with team-mates.
VICTOR LINDELOF
More traditional duel with Daniel Sturridge when the England forward came on for Roberto Firmino.
That suited the Sweden centre-back.
LUKE SHAW
Fantastic battle with Mo Salah on his flank and showed decent positioning and strength to limit the Egypt forward’s chances.
Good energy to help attacks too.
ANDER HERRERA
Picked up a hamstring injury before he could have a significant impact on the game.
Did well to foul Matip when the Liverpool centre-back was in full flow on the edge of the area, preventing a good chance.
SCOTT McTOMINAY
Bravely blocked off Milner’s early free-kick.
Very disciplined in front of the back four and left it to others to.
PAUL POGBA
Worked hard defensively and put in brave tackles.
That was just as impressive as his range of passing, which he also showed.
Should have done better with free header.
JUAN MATA
Injury hit too and came off before the break.
Plenty of energy before that without creating clear chances.
ROMELU LUKAKU
Headed out to the right flank when injuries struck United.
Unselfish game from the Belgium striker, who caused problems.
MARCUS RASHFORD
Carried on despite picking up an injury.
Before that looked a real threat with his pace.
SUBS
ANDREAS PERREIRA
Crocked after getting denied by Alisson with United’s best chance of the first half.
JESSE LINGARD
Ahead of Fred in the pecking order and came on and had plenty of energy.
ALEXIS SANCHEZ
Effort was there but not clicking for the Chile forward.
