LUKA MODRIC received a standing ovation from Celtic supporters after dropping his latest majestic display for Real Madrid.

The Champions League holders began their defence with a 3-0 win at Parkhead on Tuesday night.

Celtic matched Madrid throughout the first half, but the quality of Carlo Ancelotti’s shone through after the break.

Vinicius Jr broke the deadlock before Modric, who turns 37 on Friday, doubled the advantage.

Eden Hazard, who replaced the injured Karim Benzema midway through the opening period, then added the third to ensure a perfect start to Group F.

However, it was former Tottenham man Modric that stole the show with his sublime display.

His finish was enough to steal the headlines in itself as he struck with the outside of his boot after combining with Hazard.

With the result already sealed, Ancelotti took off the veteran with ten minutes remaining, but it was not only the away supporters that showed him their appreciation.

All four corners of the ground were caught on camera giving the legend a standing ovation as he made his way to the dug-out.

And the noise made by Celtic fans all evening certainly made an impact on the midfielder.

After the game he took to Twitter to share a snap of him celebrating his goal.
