Team news

Luke Ayling will miss the rest of the season through suspension for Leeds after getting sent off with a clumsy two-footed tackle against Arsenal.

Potential replacement Stuart Dallas is also out for the long term with a broken leg.

Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw and Crysencio Summerville are all out injured while Patrick Bamford will return to training next week with Whites fans hoping he will be able to play some role before the season ends.

Jorginho is out for a number of games for Chelsea while Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi remain on the treatment table.

Marcos Alonso was taken off at half time against Wolves after reportedly being involved in a heated row with Thomas Tuchel.

And Tuchel may yet be keen to make further changes with the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday at the forefront of Chelsea's minds.

Tuchel's engine firing on all cylinders

Chelsea have scored 70 league goals so far this season.

This is their highest tally since their most recent title-winning campaign in 2016-17.

Romelu Lukaku is the club's leading goalscorer this season with 14 goals in all competitions.

    Three cup finals to play

Leeds know that their last three games of the season will decide their entire fate as a Premier League club.

The Whites are without a win in the past seven meetings in all competitions since a 2-0 home victory in December 2022 (D2, L5).

Leeds are in the Premier League's bottom three for the first time since 30 October.

Elland Road needs to be fortress again

The Whites has gone 10 top-flight matches without a clean sheet at home.

This is their longest run since they conceded in 11 straight games between August and December 1966.

Leeds have lost all 11 league fixtures this season versus teams currently in the top six of the table, conceding 44 goals.

Chelsea boss not happy with levels

Thomas Tuchel has outlined what his side need to do get themselves of their in and out form in 2022.

It looks different (to reverse fixture). They even stepped up in their physical input, which is quite remarkable because we thought they already played on their top level physical wise under Bielsa but they stepped up in terms of high intensity runs, in terms of attacking. This is what we expect, they play a slightly different formation. Not sure what they play. They played against City in a back five and only played once. That was a very good match they played and the result does not tell you the story. I watched the match, they played very well in a 541. Otherwise they play in a 4231, they look very committed. In general, it is a fast team, a hard working team, a talented team individually. This is what we wait for. This is a match for them, do or die, like a cup match for them. The atmosphere will be like this. I am looking forward to it actually. I have played there once but without spectators. It will be a big fight. The atmosphere and the surrounding will tell you instantly what is going on and we will feel it straight away. We need to step up.

      Cooper fitness could be key

Leeds are a different proposition when their talisman is in the starting line-up.

They have conceded 34 home league goals this season, their most since they let in 41 in the Championship in 2011-12.

In the top-flight, it’s their third highest amount of home goals conceded in a campaign behind 1934-35 (35) and 1959-60 (46).

      Bad voodoo at Elland Road

Chelsea have won just 5 of their 46 league away matches at Leeds.

That win rate of 11% is the lowest in their history against teams who have played in at least 15 away league games.

The Blues have scored just 3 goals in their last 10 Premier League away games against Leeds, their only victory in those matches came in April 2000 when Jon Harley scored the only goal.

      Welcome to Leeds vs Chelsea

Sitting in the relegation zone on goal difference, Leeds United welcome Chelsea to Elland Road this evening with three points a must for The Whites if they hope to keep their Premier League status next season.

With an FA Cup Final fixture with Liverpool looming on the weekend, Thomas Tuchel could be forgiven for resting some players in this game but due to a recent poor run of form, they are starting to look over their shoulder in third place in their bid to secure Champions League qualification.

Leeds have really struggled in the final stages of the Bielsa reign and now under new manager Jesse Marsch, to put a string of wins together and with their defence shipping goals they cannot be surprised by their current plight.

Leeds are without Luke Ayling for their remaining three fixtures following his red card against Arsenal.

This game comes too soon for Patrick Bamford to return but Liam Cooper may make his comeback from a knee injury.

Chelsea midfielders Jorgingho and Ngolo Kante face fitness tests but could be left out anyway with Saturday’s FA Cup Final in mind.

Callum Hudson-Odoi still remains on the sidelines also.
