Klopp reveals Liverpool stars will only get a few days off before gruelling 'two-week pre-season' ahead of Champions League finalMay 14, 2019
JURGEN KLOPP will put his Liverpool squad through a mini “pre-season” to prepare for the Champions League.
Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the title by a point on the final day of the season and Klopp will give his troops a short break after conducting a host of media duties before the all-English showdown in Madrid.
After some time off, a tough two weeks of training will start as they look to become European champions for the sixth time when they face Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.
The German coach told liverpoolfc.com: “We have to do a couple of things in preparation for the Champions League (final), media stuff.
“We have to do that, then the boys will have a couple of days off and then we have two proper weeks as a pre-season for the Champions League final.
“We will do that, we will play that, (hopefully) win it, come home and then the people [would] get what they deserve.”
Despite pushing City all the way with 97 points, Klopp is excited about the prospect of another title challenge as his squad evolves.
He added: “Div (Divock Origi) showed up in a brilliant way, obviously, I’m very happy for him.
“Ox is coming back, Naby will then finally be there, Rhian Brewster will come, all the young boys if they want to go for it.
“And the established boys can make next steps as well – imagine Trent and Robbo last year (compared to) this year.
“They were already good last year but it’s another level. Millie (James Milner) is still making steps.
“So it’s really cool to work with this group. And we will go again, I’m pretty sure.”
