Jose Mourinho facing Man Utd sack if team continue to flop over Christmas period

December 19, 2018

The Reds are 19 points behind the Premier League leaders as they prepare for the busy run of festive fixtures.

And according to the DailyMail, Mourinho's fate at Old Trafford will be decided in the next few weeks.

There will be no room for error when his team take on Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Newcastle over Christmas.

United will be the favourites for these four games, but they have only won seven times in 17 league games this year.

And they are without a win in their last two outings ahead of Saturday's trip to Wales.

Mourinho's side will need to bounce back from Sunday's devastating defeat to Liverpool if he wants to remain in the dugout.

Mauricio Pochettino is top choice to replace him while Zinedine Zidane would also love to take charge at Old Trafford.

But it is reported that United would have to pay a whopping £24million to sack to sack the 55-year-old in January.

And this could rise if his team are still in the Champions League or pushing for a top-four finish in the Prem.

United were handed a horror draw in the European competition after they were picked to face Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout stages.

The Reds have struggled defensively throughout this season and the club have not let in this many goals since the 1962/63 campaign.

Mourinho chased a number of defenders during the summer transfer window, but failed to bolster his squad sufficiently.

He arrived to Old Trafford in 2016 with the belief that he could fill the void left by club legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jose Mourinho's shocking start to the season

  • United are 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool
  • Has won just seven times in 17 league games
  • Conceded more goals than any other team in the top half of the Premier League table
  • Manchester United's worst start to a Premier League season since 1990/91
  • Conceded more goals this season than they did in the whole of last season
  • The club has not conceded this many goals since the 1962/63 season
  • 11 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea

But he has failed to live up to expectations and a senior United star claimed he has lost "90 per cent" of the dressing room.

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen has claimed United have no hope all the time the "Special One" is in charge.

And veteran defender Gary Neville has predicted that Mourinho's days in the hot seat are numbered.
