'It makes me the player I am' – Aston Villa star John McGinn reveals how his large BUM helps him during matches

December 18, 2021

ASTON VILLA star John McGinn believes his BACKSIDE makes him the player he is.

The Scot, 27, hit out at critics of his body shape, arguing he has never been quicker or fitter than he is currently.

And he jokingly pointed out his big bum helps his physical style, despite the tight kits Villa use.

In an interview with The Telegraph he said: "I don’t think anyone runs the way I do.

“I don’t think anyone has a backside the size of me. The easy perception of me when I’m not playing well is, ‘Oh, he’s not athletic, he’s not mobile’.

"That couldn’t be further from the truth. I am as fit as I have ever been. I feel I am as quick as I have ever been.

"The body shape one is also a challenge I have had to overcome and something I do use to prove people wrong.

"There’s certainly a pressure from the outside that every footballer should be ripped to shreds. I have always been comfortable – until Aston Villa got Kappa as their shirt manufacturer, then it started to become more of a challenge!

"I would like to see some of the pundits who slag off my body try on a medium-size Kappa shirt. It certainly has its own challenges."

Whatever McGinn is doing he is clearly impressing, with Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick said to be keen on the midfielder.

McGinn scored a delightful goal at Crystal Palace a few weeks ago to win the game for Villa – earning Steven Gerrard his second win as Villans boss.
