How Man Utd will line-up vs Tranmere with Bailly to return and Mason Greenwood to start for FA Cup fourth round clash – The SunJanuary 26, 2020
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is set to use Sunday's FA Cup trip to Tranmere as a chance to reintroduce Eric Bailly to his starting line-up.
The Ivorian defender is yet to play this season after knee surgery in July.
But after two call-ups to the United bench and a return to action with the Under-23s, Bailly is likely to end his injury nightmare at Prenton Park.
The Red Devils will attempt to overturn a 3-1 deficit at Manchester City in the upcoming midweek Carabao Cup semi-final second leg and thus further changes are expected across the pitch.
In between the sticks will be Sergio Romero with Phil Jones partnering the returning Bailly.
Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot are in line for a runout at full-back but Solskjaer's central midfield shortage should see Nemanja Matic and Fred keep their place.
Likewise, Juan Mata and Daniel James are the likely options to start behind Mason Greenwood in attack as Anthony Martial is rested.
Fans may have hoped to see Bruno Fernandes making his debut for United this weekend but his move from Sporting CP is far from complete.
Reports on Sunday morning suggested an improved £46.5million offer for the playmaker – rated at closer to £68m by Lisbon.
Two young wingers nearing the end of their contract, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong, are vying for a spot on the flank.
Dutch Under-21 international Chong is best placed for the call-up as the Red Devils battle to keep the young forward.
