August 25, 2023TEMPLEGATE takes on Friday at York certain of having found a few winners.
Read on for our man's tips and back a horse at their best price by clicking their odds below.
HIGHFIELD PRINCESS (3.35 York, nap)
She can win another Nunthorpe for Yorkshire-based trainer John Quinn and jockey Jason Hart. She has been a brilliant standard bearer for this excellent handler and she already has three Group 1s on her CV.
ENFJAAR (5.15 York, nb)
He deserves another chance given how easily he won a couple of novice contests before a modest effort in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. These are much calmer waters and he starts handicapping from a mark that gives him a chance.
WOOTTON’SUN (1.50 York, treble)
He never runs a bad race and followed a game win at Haydock with a short-head second at Ascot 13 days ago. He is going up the weights but this trip suits and he goes on any ground. Another big effort is expected.

He is going up the weights but this trip suits and he goes on any ground. Another big effort is expected.
Balance Play looked a mile ahead of the handicapper when scoring at Goodwood three weeks ago so a 7lb rise in the weights shouldn’t put the brakes on.
This slightly longer trip should be fine and he’s a major player.
Paradias ran a good race off this handicap mark latest over 1m2f and will be a contender if seeing out this longer distance.
It’s early days for Intinso who was less than a length off the pace at Ascot on handicap debut last time.
A 3lb rise looks fait and there’s more to come from the Gosden hope who saw out this trip well latest.
Zanndabad had a rough race here on Wednesday when blocked a couple of times.
Dropping back from two miles may be a wise move too as his best form has come around this sort of trip.
It would be no surprise to see him get a lot closer today.
Mr Curiosity got stuck in the mud over a longer distance at Goodwood last time. He scored at Ripon over this distance before that and still looks on a fair weight.
Dark Moon Rising won here last time and stays well so can’t be discounted from a fair 4lb higher.
The King’s Educator hasn’t won for a while but likes this distance and the first-time blinkers may help.
2.25
COLTRANE was one of many who let Quickthorn get too far ahead in the Goodwood Cup and surely Oisin Murphy won’t make the same mistake again.
He has developed into a Group 1 performer and went close in the Ascot Gold Cup when pipped by Courage Mon Ami.
He more than reversed form with the Gosden runner at Glorious Goodwood and can confirm the placings today.
Frankie Dettori’s mount is still a big danger and will find this ground more to his liking than the tacky conditions on the Downs.
His Ascot Gold Cup win confirmed him as high class and there should be more to come given he’s only four.
Just like at Goodwood, the other jockeys watched Tom Marquand fire Quickthorn into an easy lead they couldn’t peg back in this race 12 months ago.
He will try to repeat those tactics and they could well work again.
Giavellotto was impressive when winning the Yorkshire Cup over 1m6f here in May and was a respectable fifth in the Goodwood Cup.
His liking for the Knavesmire is a plus but he’ll need a bit more in this company.
3.00
KING’S GAMBLE looked a hot prospect when winning on debut at Newmarket last time.
This son of Kingman tanked along before picking up nicely inside the final furlong.
He was going away at the line on the quick ground and will take a major step forward as most Ralph Beckett runners do on their second start.
Kylian looked to be crying out for this trip when staying on for third in the Molecomb at Glorious Goodwood.
He earlier took a Sandown Listed contest by six lengths so has plenty of quality. He acted on quick ground when third here in May and should go close.
Johannes Brahms was a cracking second in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot when finishing strongly over the minimum trip.
He didn’t have the best of the draw that day either. Moving up in distance will help and he comes here nice and fresh.
Action Point clocked a good time when winning a Newbury Listed contest last month.
That was his first crack at this distance and he clearly enjoyed it. There should be a lot more to come.
Haatem has been in fine form at Group 2 level and scored at Goodwood last time.
That was over an extra furlong so he may just find things happening a little quickly here.
Lake Forest disappointed at Newmarket last time after a good second in the July Stakes so has questions to answer.
3.35
HIGHFIELD PRINCESS can win another Nunthorpe for Yorkshire-based trainer John Quinn and jockey Jason Hart.
She has been a brilliant standard bearer for this excellent handler and she already has three Group 1s on her CV.
That’s not bad considering her first success came in a Class 6 handicap at Ayr three years ago from a mark of 58!
She’s added 59lb to that official rating since and was an easy winner of the King George at Glorious Goodwood last time.
That was on the back of two excellent top-level efforts at Royal Ascot where the track doesn’t suit quite as well as the Knavesmire. She won this last year and is the one to beat.
Big Evs gets lumps of weight as a two-year-old and has been supplemented after his gutsy win in the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
That was on bottomless ground but it was quick when he took the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and his weight allowance can see him into the first three.
Bradsell hasn’t run since edging out the tip to win the King’s Stand Stakes at the Royal meeting.
He hung badly under Hollie Doyle but stil had a length to spare. He is an obvious threat and liked the track when winning on debut here last summer.
Regional is no mug and landed a hot handicap over course and distance at the Dante meeting in May.
He followed up in Listed company at Haydock and fast ground suits. He looks a lively each-way contender.
Dramatised was snookered by the draw at Royal Ascot and has had a nice break since.
She showed a lot of pace when winning the Temple Stakes at Haydock and will enjoy conditions.
Twilight Calls ran well last time and can give Frankie a good spin.
4.10
REACH can get back to winning ways reunited with Joanna Mason. She was on board when she won easily at Nottingham three starts ago before she took her form up a notch with a smooth Beverley success.
She really didn’t take to Windsor last time where he didn’t get the run of the race.
Yorkshire legend Mick Easterby will have her spot on for this cup final over an ideal trip.
Ryan Moore rides Sirona for Charlie Johnston and she will relish this trip after finishing strongly over a mile at Newmarket latest. She is a Listed winner at best and can make her presence felt.
Rowayeh scored at Beverley and Sandown before an excellent third in a hot Goodwood handicap.
She could be helped by this step up in distance and trainer Owen Burrows is always respected.
Chelsea Green went close in a French Listed contest last month when upped to this trip and is on the shortlist.
Youngest got no luck in running at Goodwood and is a lot better than that seventh place suggests.
4.45
ZAIN BLUE made a good start when second to Gimcrack contender King’s Gamble at Newmarket last time.
He was green there but came home strongly and should appreciate this extra furlong.
Under The Sun was beaten in a tight finish at Ascot last time by a horse that went close in Listed level on his next run.
He is already proven over this distance and should be a major player.
Kings Valley showed promise when third on debut at Sandown. That was on soft ground so he needs to repeat that in likely quicker conditions.
Andrew Balding won this in 2021 and was second 12 months ago so his Castle In The Sand warrants respect.
He was hampered when fourth on debut at Ffos Las and is clearly a lot better than that.
Aidan O’Brien runs Battle Cry who improved from his debut when a close second at Down Royal. He needs to improve again but is likely to do so.
There are some nice newcomers to watch in the betting market. Peace Walk, Sisyphean and Volterra are all well bred and come from yards that can get them ready.
5.15
ENFJAAR deserves another chance given how easily he won a couple of novice contests before a modest effort in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
These are much calmer waters and he starts handicapping from a mark that gives him a chance.
Tafreej also sports the famous blue Shadwell silks and he ran a decent race when fourth at Newmarket last time. He seems best over this distance.
Power Of Gold won with plenty in hand on quick ground at Doncaster in June and has run close to that level in defeat twice since. He has solid each-way prospects.
English Oak looks the type to do better now handicapping.
He won at Thirsk over this trip before a close-up third at Newmarket latest. The booking of Ryan Moore takes the eye.

Bajan Bandit won a big-field contest here over 7f last month and can figure if seeing out this longer trip.
A 7lb rise in the weights means he must improve though. Modesty won over course and distance on debut and has gone well twice since.
