Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro dead at 39May 17, 2019
Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro — winner of the company’s 2005 “Diva Search” — has died, according to police officials. She was just 39.
“This is just awful news,” wrote wrestling legend Mick Foley in a tweet Thursday, shortly after Massaro’s death was reported by police in Suffolk County, where the two of them are from.
“She lived in the same town as me,” Foley said. “I loved seeing her around. She was always so nice…and now she’s gone.”
Police officials told The Post that authorities rushed Massaro — a one-time Survivor contestant and Playboy covergirl — from her home to a nearby hospital after getting a “call for rescue” early Thursday morning at around 5:23 a.m.
The cause of Massaro’s death was not released, but cops said it was being classified as “non-criminal.” She had been tweeting regularly up until this week, with her last post going out Wednesday night.
“Just answered a ton of fanmail so you guys should be receiving them soon!” Massaro tweeted. “Love ya punx.”
Massaro, who was set to turn 40 on May 26, was the first winner of the WWE Diva Search and competed at two WrestleManias — once for the women’s championship.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” the company said. “She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”
