Manchester United have announced manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

A statement from United on Tuesday morning said: ‘The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

‘A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.’

Manchester City fan Liam Gallagher is known for his contempt of their city rivals and he sarcastically expressed his disappointment at the dismissal by writing: ‘GUTTED’ after being asked his thoughts on the decision.

Upon his arrival into English football as Chelsea manager in 2004, Mourinho self-appointed himself as the ‘Special One’. However, after another firing on his resume, @Ibraheemaji10 dubbed him as the ‘Sacked One’.

Mourinho’s two-and-a-half year tenure has seen spats with many stars including Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial – leading to a disgruntled dressing room. However, @zhang0428 believes they’ll be jumping for joy now that he is no longer their boss.

Paul Pogba

News of Mourinho’s departure also shifted focus to Pogba. The France’s midfielder’s differences with his now ex-manager are well documented and he appeared to take a shot at Mourinho on Instagram. 

The 25-year-old uploaded a picture of himself with a smirk on his face accompanied with the caption: ‘Caption this!’. It was soon deleted.

Pogba’s post didn’t go down with United legend Gary Neville and TV presenter Piers Morgan who both hit out at his obvious lack of discretion.
