Erik ten Hag reveals Donny van de Beek WILL be in his Man Utd plans after being frozen out under Solskjaer and Rangnick

June 5, 2022

DONNY VAN DE BEEK will be in new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag's plans next season.

Van de Beek, 25, joined United from Ajax in the summer of 2020 but failed to settle and claim a position in the team.

The Dutchman was given only sparing minutes by former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who preferred to utilise Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 position.

He wasn't afforded the opportunity to play in a deeper role by the former United striker either, with Scott McTominay and Fred being preferred in a double pivot.

The playmaker was also not seen as a part of Ralf Rangnick's plans at Old Trafford when he took over on an interim basis – instead allowing him to go out on loan to Everton for the rest of the season.

However, Ten Hag, who managed Van de Beek at Ajax, will find a way to accommodate him.

Fabrizio Romano has reported Ten Hag does have a role for Van de Beek to play in his new-look United team.

Whether this will be from the start of matches or from the bench remains to be seen, but it shows encouragement that a plan could finally be in place on how best to use him.

Van de Beek, shone at Ajax under Ten Hag, 52, reaching a Champions League semi-final and winning an Eredivisie and Dutch Cup double.

Ten Hag's United revolution is well underway, with a number of high profile stars being allowed to leave this summer, including the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, and Nemanja Matic.

Other stars such as Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe have also been told they can leave the club this summer.

A new captain is also set to be installed at the club, with Ten Hag set to allow the players to vote for a new captain after stripping Harry Maguire of his position.

Meanwhile, United are pushing heavily for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who Ten Hag wants in order to reinvigorate the United midfield which has not seen substantial investment since 2017.

However, the lack of Champions League football has seen this move prove difficult to push over the line, leading United to now consider the free transfer of Christian Eriksen from Brentford.
