  • Gareth Southgate is still expected to name the player in his squad on Tuesday

An England star and two other players from Sheffield United have tested positive for coronavirus after returning from their holidays to Greek islands, according to reports.

Mykonos came into the spotlight following the arrest of Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire on the Aegean isle on Thursday following a late-night brawl.

But now The Sun claim a member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and two footballers playing for Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane gave positive tests as they returned to training after trips to Greece this month.

The Sun also claim two Sheffield United players have also contracted Covid-19 after returning

The report also claims that Premier League clubs and Southgate himself are concerned about a Covid-19 crisis as players come back from their summer breaks.

Southgate had already been rocked by the news of Maguire’s arrest, but now it appears his problems have been added to with another one of his players — who cannot be named and tested positive last week — now self-isolating for 10 days in line with government guidelines.

The same outlet however insists that Southgate is still expected to include the player in question in Tuesday’s squad announcement for the Nations League games with Iceland and Denmark on September 5 and 8.

But Gareth Southgate has suffered a fresh setback with one of his stars now self isolating

But the England boss could yet face an anxious wait to discover whether the player has infected any other of his squad.

Wilder has also seen his pre-season plans hit by last week’s positive tests of the unnamed duo, who had also travelled to the Greek islands.

Manchester United once again broke their silence over the alleged incident involving Maguire after confirming that their club captain has pleaded not guilty to the charges facing him.

The 27-year-old was told he was free to return to England despite a hearing looming on Tuesday over his alleged role in attacking policemen while enjoying a night out with friends in Mykonos.
