Crystal Palace next manager: Eddie Howe storms ahead of John Terry and Frank Lampard after bookies drop price overnight

February 15, 2021

EDDIE HOWE has stormed ahead of John Terry and Frank Lampard in the race to become Crystal Palace's next permanent manager.

That's according to Betfair, who've slashed the price of the former Bournemouth boss replacing Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park from 5/1 to 9/4 overnight.

The 43-year-old is a free agent having left the Cherries by mutual consent after their relegation to the Championship back in August.

But he's now the leading contender in South London with plenty of 'admirers' on the Crystal Palace board.

Aston Villa assistant John Terry is second in the betting market.

Terry's price has fluctuated from 12/1 to 5/2 over recent weeks but he's now settled at 3/1 for his first role in management.

His former Chelsea colleague Frank Lampard isn't far behind at 7/2.

Lampard, who was born just 15 miles away from Crystal Palace in Romford, boasts an impressive resume.

He guided Derby to the Championship play-off final during his first role in management before making the leap to West London.

There he was nominated for the 2019/20 Premier League Manager of the Year award having led his side to a top-four finish during his debut season.

Sean Dyche is also admired by the club's chiefs and is available at 8/1.

However, Burnley would likely ask for a significant compensation fee for their manager, who signed a four-and-a-half year deal in January 2018.

Further back at a double-figure price is Sunderland boss Lee Johnson at 14/1.

A return for Alan Pardew is available at 16/1 along with Manchester United first-team coach, Michael Carrick.

Talk of a change at Crystal Palace comes shortly after Hodgson admitted that he was in no rush to resolve his future with the club.

And pressure has intensified after Saturday's 3-0 home defeat to Burnley, who entered the match as the division's lowest scorers.
