EVERTON have struck the front in the race for Conor Gallagher.

That's according to Betfair, who've installed the Toffees at 7-4 to sign the Chelsea midfielder before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

But there's serious competition for his services with SIX top-flight clubs all tipped to challenge.

Newcastle are close behind at 5-2.

The Toon have the financial muscle to clinch his signature, and manager Eddie Howe is reportedly a big admirer of the player.

Crystal Palace, where Gallagher spent a hugely successful loan period, are offered at 15-2, ahead of Brighton (20-1), Fulham (33-1) and Liverpool (33-1).

The 22-year-old has become a more influential player for Chelsea since returning to Stamford Bridge.

He's made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring once against Crystal Palace and registering an assist against Brighton.

But it's thought Chelsea's hierarchy would be inclined to green-light a sale if a generous offer was tabled.

The Blues have spent over £400million on new recruits, and are planning a colossal £106m offer for Benfica's Enzo Fernandez.

Everton, who received £40m from Newcastle for Anthony Gordon, are eager to spend and have their sights on Gallagher to help their survival efforts.

Reports suggest Sean Dyche and the club's director of football Kevin Thelwell have submitted an official £40million bid plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Chelsea would likely accept the offer, but convincing the player who loves the club to leave could prove tricky.

If he's told to leave then Newcastle could intensify their pursuit, as could a number of Premier League contenders.
