January 30, 2023

Following a 17-point loss at home to USC on Sunday, the Colorado women’s basketball team fell out of The Associated Press Top 25.

The new poll was released on Monday and it had the Buffs, ranked No. 25 last week, slipping out of the rankings. CU (16-5, 7-3 Pac-12) was second among the “others receiving votes” with 40 points.

Texas and South Florida, which both went 2-0 last week, jumped ahead of the Buffs into the rankings. South Florida, at No. 25, received 52 points in the voting. Illinois, which was at No. 22 last week, has 45 points, with CU not far behind.

The Buffs opened last weekend with a 73-70 overtime upset of then-No. 8 UCLA, but couldn’t complete the weekend sweep. Unranked USC rolled past the Buffs, 71-54, on Sunday at the CU Events Center.

CU first entered the Top 25 two weeks ago, at No. 24, and slipped to 25th a week ago.

South Carolina remains at No. 1 after receiving all 28 first-place votes. Stanford moved up a spot to No. 2 after sweeping the Oregon schools last weekend. LSU, Indiana and Connecticut round out the top five.

Stanford (21-2, 9-1 Pac-12) leads a group of four Pac-12 teams in the Top 25 this week.

Utah (18-2, 8-2) moved up two spots to No. 7, the highest ranking in program history. UCLA (17-5, 6-4) dropped six spots to No. 14 after losing to CU and Utah over the weekend. And Arizona (16-5, 6-4) fell three spots to No. 22 after losing at home to Washington State on Sunday.

CU, USC (17 points) and Oregon (one point) all received votes.

The Buffs visit Oregon (14-7, 5-5) on Friday at 8 p.m. MT and Oregon State (11-10, 3-7) on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
