Cheltenham Festival tips: Templegate's placepot picks for day one including this 12-1 shot
March 14, 2022THE Placepot is a bet where you select a horse to be placed in the first six races of any meeting.
But you can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your stake.
We are having at least two horses running for us in five of the races with wondermare Honeysuckle our banker in the Champion Hurdle.
Our selections for day one of Cheltenham are:
Leg 1 (1.30): Dysart Dynamo and Jonbon
Willie Mullins' Dysart Dynamo was a hugely impressive winner on his last start, while the well-bred Jonbon is unbeaten in three hurdle runs.

Leg 2 (2.10): Riviere D’Etel and Edwardstone
The classy mare gets a handy 7lb sex allowance from the boys, while Edwardstone has been foot-perfect over fences and should be in the frame.
Leg 3 (2.50): Fantastikas, Our Power and Floueur
Fantastikas won nicely last time out, Our Power is rarely out of the frame and Floueur looks well-handicapped.
Leg 4 (3.30): Honeysuckle
She is a winning machine and it is impossible to see her finishing out of the first three.

Leg 5 (4.10): Queens Brook and Stormy Ireland
The Irish-trained pair have been trained with this race in mind and should be bang there.
Leg 6 (4.50): The Tide Turns and Gaelic Warrior
There has been some noise about both of these horses in the build-up and they look to have snuck in off good marks.
So for staking it’s 2x2x3x1x2x2 which adds up to 48 lines in the Placepot.
You can stake what you want upwards from 5p a line which would cost a total of £2.40. 10p a line is £4.80 and so on.
Provided at least one of our horses in each race is placed, we get a payout which could be pretty tasty given it’s the Cheltenham Festival!
