Best horse racing tips: Sun Racing's top picks for today's racing at York, Kempton, Worcester, Carlisle and Brighton

January 28, 2022

YORK deservedly takes centre stage on Wednesday, but a winner pays the same everywhere and we've dived into the cards elsewhere too.

We've picked out our best bets across the cards and can hopefully build up a nice kitty for the week.

Best bet

3.00 Cross Counter – Looks a shoe in to me, with Kew Gardens vulnerable under a penalty and not at his ideal trip. Cross Counter is still on the up and he smashed the track record at Goodwood last time.

Each way

4.15 Bedrock – Ran a blinder at the Galway Festival and looks well-handicapped on the level. Trainer Iain Jardine is handy at getting these stayers ready for a big pot and Bedrock can build on his bold Irish show here at a nice price.

Best bet

2.05 First Bombardment – Bumped into a progressive type two starts ago and was very unlucky in running last time out. Huge chance here and the booking of Jamie Codd gives any chance of this one slipping under the radar away.

Each way

3.15 Kensington Art – Juvenile runners from the Richard Fahey tend to come on leaps and bounds for their debut and this youngster showed enough first time. The form has played well of the race and he could be a big player here at decent odds.

Best bet

2.15 Winter Light – Richard Hughes' filly has shown a lot on her first two runs and a repeat of both should be enough to win this. Hopefully the Stoute horse sets up the market for this one.

Each way

2.50 Blessed To Empress – Poor field sizes at Brighton mean each way betting is hard to come by. But Amy Murphy likes a winner at Brighton and Blessed To Empress is one to have on side in this weak race. Takes on a bunch of exposed horses and Nicola Currie takes off a valuable three.

Best bet

5.30 One For Billy – Pulled out at Southwell the other day and looks the one to beat in this small field. The Skelton's have teamed up to good effect all summer and look to have another well placed one here.

Each way

7.30 Celtic Sally – A very winnable race and this six-year-old should come on for her hurdle debut a few weeks back.

Best bet

7.15 Extra Elusive – Connections will be disappointed if this horse doesn't prove better than a Class 3 handicapper and he showed enough at Ascot to suggest he is. Should be able to dominate this small field.

Each way

7.45 Knight Owl – On a losing run but goes well here and appears well handicapped if things fall his way here. Will need plenty of luck in running at Kempton as always, but the draw in stall three is a plus.
