COMMENT: Premier League clubs flying miles for friendlies makes a mockery of bosses’ fixture moans
The bleating about too many matches is one racing certainty for next season.
But before Prem bosses start to moan, they maybe need to look at the real killer schedule they have ALREADY signed up to.
Just the 64 matches, in 15 countries, in the space of 26 days.
Top-flight teams crisscrossing the world more than SIX times between them — and clocking up a staggering 170,000 air miles.
Before a serious ball has been kicked. Players being run ragged? Too many matches? A danger to health? Absolutely . . . 100 per cent.
But the reality is that this season’s summer-friendly calendar shows, once again, that when it comes down to it, what really matters to club chiefs is cash.

Premier League legend tells Arsenal Cancelo won't win them title
Premier League legend Andy Cole has declared Joao Cancelo will not be enough to end Arsenal's title drought.
Speaking to Genting Casino, Cole admitted Cancelo was a good player.
However, he questioned why he had fallen out with Pep Guardiola and insisted the full-back would not make enough of a difference to tip the margins into Arsenal's favour next season.
He said: "I haven't had a teammate like Joao Cancelo before who would fall out with a manager if the reports are true. Nobody actually knows what's gone on between Cancelo and Pep Guardiola.
"Cancelo is a really good player and would definitely improve any team he joins.
"If Cancelo was to join Arsenal, he can only do so much to help win games but I don't think it would make a difference in a title race, no footballer has superhuman powers like that.
"If Guardiola didn't think he would cause him so many problems in years to come, he wouldn't have gotten rid of him like that.
"Football is a sport of team players who work together to win trophies and succeed."

Everton are reportedly considering a move to sign former Arsenal and Barcelona director Raul Sanllehi.
According to the Daily Mail, “Sanllehi has admirers on Merseyside”, though it is not certain whether he would be offered the same head of football role he had at the Emirates.
The 56-year-old left Arsenal during the Covid-19 pandemic, seeing him lay off 55 members of staff before he himself was laid off too.

Jorginho drops Havertz hint
Jorginho has hinted that Kai Havertz could be closing in on a move to Arsenal.
The footballers were reunited as they attended Kepa Arrizabalaga's wedding with stunning wag Andrea Martinez.
Jorginho and Havertz were team-mates at Chelsea before the Italian left the club in January for London rivals Arsenal.
This summer however Jorginho could be joined at the Gunners by the German forward.
Mikel Arteta's side are thought to be on the verge of completing a £65million deal to sign Havertz from Chelsea.
And Jorginho has now cheekily teased the deal on Instagram, by posting a selfie with Havertz while adding in a bunch of eye emojis.

Skipper still hurting from title collapse
Martin Odegaard has spoken about how Arsenal's failure to win the Premier League this season still haunts him:
There are so many things that can affect the season, we were close and we must use the disappointment to go closer. I think this will bother me for the rest of my life. We were very close, I almost managed to achieve my dream, I think it will be painful for the rest of my life but we have to try again next year.

Edu at risk of being 'fall guy'
As the man brokering Arsenal's transfer business, Edu risks facing the wrath of the fans if they miss out on key targets.
West Ham have turned down two offers from The Gunners for Declan Rice due to payments being spread over six years.
Allegedly, Arsenal have a round £200m to spend this summer which brings into question why they are getting clubs backs up with such long winded financial packages.

Personal terms offer false flag to fans
Arsenal seem to have no issues with agreeing personal terms with potential targets.
For most, this is an indication that the transfer is close to be being done but as we are seeing more and more, this is far from the case.
The Gunners seem to have a real issue with meeting club's valuations of their players, allowing competitors to trump their offers.
This is something the North London outfit will need to address this week if they intend on getting three of their summer targets into the club.

Gunners still keen on Portugal star
Reports are suggesting that Arsenal still have a huge interest in signing Joao Cancelo this summer.
However, they are currently completely focussed on getting the Declan Rice deal done.
It is rumoured that once they have addressed their midfield problem, they will contact Man City over the wantaway full back.

Arteta should not have so much control
Former Head of Football, Raul Sanllehi, believes that Arsenal are wrong in allowing Mikel Arteta to have the control that Arsene Wenger had at the club.
Previously speaking with The Athletic, he said "I do not agree when clubs call the first-team coach 'the manager'.
"First-team coach is first-team coach, that is enough. Nowadays, the workload is overwhelming, and I need him to concentrate on the first team.
"They have betrayed the model a little bit now. By going back to the manager at the top, that is a mistake, but that is their mistake.
"I would have not allowed that to happen. But that’s fine, it is working so far for them."

Rose-tinted glasses for German
While the hype has been huge for the impending signing of Kai Havertz, you have to wonder whether this is going to be another Nicolas Pepe.
His goal return is average at best and during his time at Stamford Bridge he has failed to impress his employers.
Deployed as a striker last season, he missed many gilt-edged chances at important periods of the game for The Blues.
To play in a wide position would mean picking him instead of either Martinelli or Saka who both had great seasons.
The only other option would be to play him behind the striker which would mean ditching a centre midfielder.
With a reported £65m being the fee involved, this seems like quite the gamble for Mikel Arteta.

Eagles planning North London swoop
Crystal Palace are becoming increasingly interested in Folarin Balogun.
With a price set of £35m for the 21-year-old, it seems a cheap price in the current transfer market.
If Kai Havertz is to arrive in North London this week, the USMNT striker will find his first-team options even more slim and may be forced to leave The Emirates.

Gunners legend praises young star
Aaron Ramsey has spoken about Arsenal's Folarin Balogun, whose future is uncertain in North London:
He’s a very good player. We played against him a couple of times and, from what I saw, he’s a very exciting player. Arsenal have many great players but he’s definitely got the quality. He’s good enough for the Premier League.

Arteta to be wary of previous experiences
With Arsenal looking to spend big in this transfer window to strengthen, the club will need to learn from a dark episode in previous transfer windows.
The signing of Nicolas Pepe will rank as one of the Premier League's biggest flops with The Gunners parting with £72m for the player.
Mikel Arteta is still struggling to recoup any of that money and the club are considering letting the player leave for free.
The Spanish manager will hopefully have done his homework on any potential signings this summer to avoid a repeat of that saga.

Defender edges closer to move
Jurrien Timber has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal.
While the clubs have yet agree a fee with a £20m difference in both of their valuations, it is expected they will find a middle-ground.
That figure could be in the region of £39m while the player is very keen to join Mikel Arteta's side at The Emirates.

Gunners have clear summer strategy
Mikel Arteta's side have tried to cover all eventualities for their summer spending.
While Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo were high on the targets, they do have a 'Plan C' if these do not come off.
That involves Southampton's Romeo Lavia, with The Gunners planning on a move if the other transfers are not possible.

Arsenal offered Liverpool flop
Juventus are preparing to offer Arthur Melo as part of a swap deal for Thomas Partey.
The 26-year-old only made one appearance for Liverpool after spending the year on loan at Anfield in an injury-plagued season.
The Serie A giants want to spend as little money as possible on Partey and are looking for ways to drive the price down, with a swap deal seeming a viable option as Arteta looks to strengthen his squad.
