Arsenal 'make transfer enquiry for Man Utd flop Memphis Depay' as Mikel Arteta targets summer move for Barcelona striker

May 18, 2022

ARSENAL have reportedly enquired about signing Barcelona striker Memphis Depay this summer.

The Dutch centre-forward, 28, only joined the Catalan club last year on a free transfer after his Lyon contract expired.

He has 13 goals and two assists in 37 matches in all competitions for Barca, but his future at the Nou Camp is in question.

Depay's deal at Barcelona expires next summer, and Xavi's side could decide to offload him in the upcoming transfer window to avoid losing him for nothing.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is known to be in the market for two centre-forwards with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to become free agents.

Manchester City ace Gabriel Jesus has been heavily linked with the Gunners.

Meanwhile PSV ace Cody Gakpo has also emerged as a potential option for Arsenal.

It was claimed last month how Depay was on the Gunners' radar after being 'seduced' by several Premier League clubs.

As well as Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle were said to be interested in the former Manchester United flop.

And it has now been reported that the North Londoners have stepped up their pursuit of the 77-cap Holland international.

According to ABC, Arsenal have lodged an enquiry to Barca to gauge how much they would need to fork out to bring Depay to the Emirates.

The Spanish outlet also adds that West Ham and Juventus are keeping tabs on the player.

Barca are understood to be set to offload up to nine first-team stars due to their financial situation.

In addition to Depay, the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Sergino Dest and Clement Lenglet could all be allowed to depart.
