Arsenal injury boost with Kieran Tierney due back in full training this week and set to be ready for Liverpool clash

September 23, 2020

KIERAN TIERNEY has given Arsenal a boost ahead of their clash against Liverpool with the defender set to return to full training later this week.

The 23-year-old suffered a minor injury in the warm-up before Saturday's match against West Ham.

As a result, he was taken out of the starting XI and replaced by Sead Kolasinac, leading Gunners fans to fear he could face a spell on the sidelines.

Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic last year while carrying a groin problem, and it was that area that he tweaked at the Emirates last weekend.

But the club have stated that the left-back is almost fully fit ahead of their trip to Anfield on Monday.

However he will play no part in Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Commenting on the Scotland international, a club statement read: "Tight left groin on Saturday.

"Settling well and aiming to resume full training later this week."

Mikel Arteta already assured supporters after the 2-1 win against the Hammers that Tierney's injury isn't as bad as first feared.

He said: "Kieran is fine. He had a little muscular discomfort in the last few days.

"He tried today and worked in the warm-up but he wasn't feeling comfortable today.

"We believed that he was going to be fit but during the warm-up, in the last ten minutes, he said he wasn't feeling OK.

"We had to make a decision. We were prepared just in case and Kola came on and had a good game."
