Arsenal 'hold talks with Fabian Ruiz's agents as they consider joining European giants in summer transfer race'

February 20, 2022

ARSENAL have enquired about the possibility of signing Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old is under contract with the Italian side until the end of the 2022/23 season.

But he has refused to sign a new deal with the club, so Napoli know this summer is the last realistic chance they have to recoup some money for him.

Ruiz has scored five goals and assisted four more in 25 appearances so far this season.

He has also been capped 15 times by the Spanish national team.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked with a move for the talented Spaniard.

But now, according to The Mirror, Arsenal may have joined the race for the midfielder after meeting with Ruiz's representatives in an attempt to understand his demands.

It is believed he wants a four-year deal when he signs for his new club.

And Napoli are thought to want a fee of £16million plus extras as they seek a potential suitor.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly a fan of Ruiz and would like to bring him in at the end of the season.

Arsenal signed a host of players last summer including Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard.

But they remained quiet in the January window as they opted not to sign anyone.

As a result, Arteta is expected to dip into the transfer market at the end of the campaign – particularly if the Gunners secure Champions League football.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League as they chase down Manchester United in fourth.

Next up for Arsenal is a home game against Wolves on Thursday.
