Arsenal and Man Utd flop Henrikh Mkhitaryan extends Roma contract and won’t be available on free transfer in summer

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN'S Roma contract has been extended until June 2022, rewarding the Arsenal and Manchester United flop's sparkling start to the season.

The Armenia skipper was Europe's top midfielder for goals and assists before Christmas.

Mkhitaryan's 12 goal involvements by December 21, including netting seven times, put him one ahead of Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Marseille's Florian Thauvin.

And the winger, 31, has been a different player in Italy to the one who struggled to impose himself during four years in the Premier League.

The former Borussia Dortmund star totalled just 13 goals and 11 assists in his two seasons at United.

He was then the makeweight in a now-infamous swap with Arsenal's main man Alexis Sanchez in January 2018.

Sanchez's fortunes dived, while Mkhitaryan barely kept his own fortunes afloat.

He left for Roma on a season's loan after netting nine goals and assisting in 13 from 59 games for the Gunners.

And solid form in Serie A earned him a permanent switch last summer.

Now Mkhitaryan is a lynchpin for a Roma side third in the table, behind the two Milan giants.
