A woman has gained nine dress sizes due to a rare syndrome.
SJ, who is based in the US, has taken to TikTok to share her journey of her six year battle with Cushing’s Syndrome that made her jump from a size 2 to a size 20.
Taking to the social media site under the username @fromcushingstocured , SJ shows off her petite figure while donning a pair of denim shorts.
In the next clip, SJ looks completely different as she wears a white bra and black leggings that exposes her belly.
The TikToker explained in the comments that her weight gain was due to Cushing’s syndrome, which she initially mistook for a tumour.
She explained: “I had a tumour on my pituitary gland that was removed but it turned out not to be the source of my Cushing’s! I did have low oestrogen and progesterone.”
“They don’t know what causes the tumours to form!
"But they know it was from a tumour that produced the hormone acth which lead to the adrenal glands over producing cortisol!
“I ended up having multiple surgeries and both of my adrenal glands removed to achieve remission.”
Luckily SJ's health is a bit better nowadays.
She said: “After 6 long years I am free of Cushings but now permanently adrenal insufficient due to needing both glands that produce cortisol removed.”
Since being posted, the video has racked up 1.1 million views and 57,000 likes.
According to the NHS website, Cushing’s syndrome is: “A condition caused by having too much of a hormone called cortisol in your body. It can be serious if it's not treated.”
However, the official site states the condition is ‘uncommon’ but it can be caused by a tumour.
The NHS explains: “Cushing's syndrome is uncommon. It mostly affects people who have been taking steroid medicine, especially steroid tablets, for a long time. Steroids contain a synthetic version of cortisol.
“Very rarely, it can be caused by the body producing too much cortisol…
“A growth (tumour) in the pituitary gland in the brain or a tumour in one of the adrenal glands above the kidneys.”
Having been moved by SJ’s story with Cushing’s syndrome, many people fled to the comments to provide their support to the woman.
One person commented: “I’m so sorry that you had to go through such a scary journey.”
Another user added: “Oof yes Cushing’s is rough. I’m glad you got diagnosed and are getting the treatment you need for it!”
A third person remarked: “Thanks for sharing your story and spreading awareness about Cushing's!”
Someone else said: “Cushing's is so hard. I hope you’re feeling healthy babe.”
Meanwhile, a fifth user expressed: “I hope you know you’re literally still so stunning. You have an amazing smile.”
