- Playtex’s parent company Edgewell Personal Care released a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, saying that it is conducting a review to ensure it is an ‘isolated incident’
- The company also revealed that to date, they have had no similar reports
A woman who claims she discovered a sharp plastic hook sticking out of a tampon has spoken out about the trauma she suffered as a result of the incident.
22-year-old Harmony Grant was unwrapping a tampon back in January when she noticed that there was something black inside the product.
The Virginia Beach-native pulled the object out, and discovered that it was a sharp plastic hook.

After the incident occurred, Harmony shared her story to Facebook, where she also revealed photographs of the damaged tampon, in order to warn her friends, family and others to be cautious when using feminine products.
She accompanied the post with a caption that read: ‘Warning! Ladies be careful when getting tampons be sure to do a quick check before using!

‘This morning I got a tampon out of my Playtex sport box and saw something black inside, so naturally I’m not going to use it.
‘Upon further inspection of this black “thing” inside of my tampon I found a SHARP PLASTIC HOOK embedded into the tampon,’ she said.
Harmony added that she recently decided to use an alternative type of tampon.
‘I just switched to using clear tampons free of dyes and I’m glad I did, however I will no longer be using them at all,’ she explained.
She added: ‘Be safe in what you put inside yourself.’
Speaking to 13NewsNow, Harmony said: ‘I couldn’t even tell what it was until I picked at it, and opened up a hook.’
‘I was utterly shocked that there was a hook sticking out of a tampon,’ she added.
Since her discovery, Harmony has reached out to the company that makes Playtex products – Edgewell Personal Care.
The company responded to the 22-year-old in an email, according to the publication.

In the message, the company apologized to Harmony, and asked her to send back the box of tampons.
The business said it would reimburse her for the box of tampons, which cost approximately $7.00.
Speaking about the apology she received, Harmony said it was ‘unacceptable’.

She explained: ‘It was like, completely unacceptable. I kind of felt like they brushed it off like it wasn’t a big deal.
‘I could have seriously been injured,’ she added.
Harmony revealed that she has been left ‘traumatized’ after the whole situation.
She said: ‘That could’ve been potentially very harmful to me, and I just want other women to know things like this are happening.’
The damaged product was one from a box of the Playtex Simple Gentle Glide tampons that Harmony had purchased, according to the publication.
Playtex is one of the most popular brands of tampon used by women in the U.S. according to research carried out by Statista.
The brand carries a wide variety of different products, including tampons, pads, and other menstrual-related products.

Meanwhile, Playtex’s parent company Edgewell Personal Care released a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, which read: ‘While we wait for the customer to return the product so we can accurately evaluate the specific report incident, we are also conducting a thorough internal Quality Assurance review to ensure this is an isolated report.
‘To date, there have been no other similar reports and Playtex tampons remain safe when used as directed.
‘The health and safety of the women who use our products is a top priority for Edgewell Personal Care. We have stringent quality assurance measures in place to ensure we can deliver safe and high-quality products to our customers.’
