November 4, 2022DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN a disabled friend took advantage of my generosity, I wrote to you for advice.
He was single and struggling with his mobility, so asked me to help with some household chores.
We are both 58 and have known each other since college.
But after several years of travelling to his home after work to help him, I was feeling resentful.
I was spending money on petrol and had no free time for myself.
Somehow, I’d become his free cleaner.

After our chat, he understood he cannot lean on me, so sought help for himself.
Our relationship hasn’t suffered. Thanks for saving our friendship.
