The guilt from cheating is eating me up and I'm thinking of confessing | The Sun
February 1, 2023DEAR DEIDRE: CHEATED on my boyfriend early in our relationship and now feel so guilty about it that I want to tell him.
But we are really happy now and confessing would destroy him and ruin what we have.
I’m 42, he’s 46 and we’ve been a couple for four years. We were both married before and left our spouses to be together, which took several years.
It was a very stressful time and I wasn’t sure things would work out.
At one point he was still living with his ex-wife and I was terrified he’d change his mind about leaving.
I’m not proud of this, but I ended up having a brief fling with a guy from work.

I put a stop to the affair very quickly and shortly afterwards my boyfriend did leave his wife and we moved in together.
I have never told him about the other guy. But I hate keeping this big secret from him.
Being honest would clear my conscience. Is it a bad idea to come clean?
DEIDRE SAYS: Honesty is not always the best policy. Confessing might make you feel better briefly but, as you say, it would deeply hurt your boyfriend and could end your relationship.
What happened is in the past. It was a mistake and you have learned from it.
My support pack, Feeling Guilty, will help you to deal with your guilt without ruining the love you share.
