Steam cleaners can clean many different surfaces and fabrics effectively. As a rule, you should avoid using a steam cleaner on unsealed wooden or parquet flooring because the moisture can damage the surface. Express.co.uk has compiled a list of six ways you can clean using steam.
What can you clean with a steam cleaner?
Steam cleaners have become more popular in recent years.
They work on a range of different surfaces by blasting these surfaces with hot steam to provide a deep cleaning treatment.
These handy tools are a great home cleaning option as they are easy to use, and use a high-pressure steam system to clean without chemicals, fumes or residue.
They can easily be adapted using a variety of attachments, depending on the job.
Carpet and floors
Steam cleaners can be used to clean a myriad of surfaces including floors, mirrors and windows.
A steam cleaner is no replacement for a proper carpet cleaner, but it can help to shift stains and refresh the pile.
Steam mops can also help to make other types of flooring sparkle.
Oven and hob
You can use a steam cleaner to clean stuck-on food spills on your stovetop and in your oven.
Begin by removing any loose debris and wiping away as much as you can using a damp sponge or cloth.
You can then use the steam cleaner, ideally with a nozzle or brush attachment, to remove any remaining gunk.
A steam cleaner can also be used instead of harsh chemicals in your oven, particularly to shift caked-on gunk.

You can use a steam cleaner on your mattress to deep clean and sanitise it.
If you are worried about bed bugs or allergy triggers, often a steam cleaner will effectively remove it.
You should begin by vacuuming your mattress and then use the upholstery attachment on your steam cleaner to steam your mattress effectively.
The steam cleaner should not leave your bed any more than a bit damp, but you can turn on a fan if you need to help dry it.
If you want to speed up the process of defrosting your freezer, you can use a steam cleaner to help quicken the process safely.
The heat of the steam will also sterilise the surface, which means you should not need to use any harsh chemicals alongside the steam cleaner.
To use a steam cleaner effectively in this manner, remove all the drawers and then place a bowl in your freezer to collect the ice and melted ice.
The steam cleaner should lead to the ice coming away from the freezer in large chunks.
A steam cleaner can also be used on the grout between tiles, whether that’s in your kitchen or bathroom.
The grout will often become dirtier than the tiles because they are lower and not cleaned as efficiently.
Steam cleaning grout lines will help to blast away dirt, stains and other debris.
Many steam cleaners will even come with small attachments specifically made to clean grout.
