Literature lovers across the country have taken to social media to mock the idea that books are the latest trend to take the fashion world by storm.

The amusing thread initiated from an article published by the New York Post which was titled: ‘Bella and Gigi Hadid make books the hot new accessory of 2019.’

Taking to Twitter to discuss the photographs of the supermodels at Milan and Paris fashion week clutching The Stranger by Albert Camus and The Outsider by Stephen King, James Corden, 40, scoffed at the latest fashion craze claim.

‘Oh please,’ he wrote, followed by an eye-rolling emoji.

And he wasn’t the only one who had something to say about hardbacks being dubbed the latest on-trend fashion statement.

‘Man I’ve been accessorizing since I was like five without knowing it,’ wrote one book worm, while another joked: ‘OMG they are the first people to read books EVER?!? What trendsetters.’
