Princess Anne jokes that it's a 'miracle she's still alive'

Princess Anne, 70, is respected for her no-nonsense approach to royal duty and is known to one of the hardest working members of the Firm. Like her father Prince Philip, 99, the Princess Royal does not suffer fools gladly and is known for her sharp wit and dry sense of humour.

In a rare new video with her dear friend Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart, 81, Anne displays a more relaxed side to her usually reserved public persona.

Anne and Jackie have been friends for decades having first met at the Daily Express awards in 1971.

Jackie’s wife Lady Helen is godmother to Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall and her battle with dementia has fuelled Jackie’s quest to help fund research into the disease.

Jackie’s interview with Anne was released to raise the profile of his Race Against Dementia charity and in it, Anne touches on the important influence Lady Helen had on her daughter Zara growing up.

During the conversation, Anne and Jackie both seem totally at ease with one another and exchange plenty of jokes as well as fond memories.

Body language analyst and expert Judi James analysed a short clip from the 20-minute video and shared her findings with Express.co.uk.

According to Judi, the duo’s “closeness” is reflected in Anne’s laidback body language.

Judi told Express.co.uk: “The pair have been friends for years and that closeness reflects in Anne’s body language here as she listens to Jackie Stewart tell a rather long story during their video chat.”

Judi added: “Stewart leans in towards the camera to suggest he’s enjoying talking one-to-one as much as making a charity video and Anne’s wide beam suggests she’s also keen to relish the laughter together.”

Judi claimed that at one point in the clip, Anne seems keen to speed Jackiee’s anecdotes up.

She said: “Anne appears slightly time-pressured though, here a couple of eye-darts hint that she’s worried they might run out of time and she does laugh before the punch-line, suggesting she’s enjoyed many of Jackie’s amusing stories before.”

According to Judi, Anne’s head-tilt suggests she is deeply absorbed in the conversation and used to joking with Jackie.

Judi said: “Anne’s head is cocked to savour the moment via some active listening signals and the way that her brows are raised but her eyes slightly narrowed suggests some history of shared banter between the pair in the past.”

Anne’s huge smile suggests she is very much enjoying the treasured catch up with her old friend.

Judi said: “Anne’s face is totally wreathed in smiles though, showing authentic pleasure at this chance to catch up with the racing legend.”

Princess Anne lives in Gloucestershire on the Gatcombe Park estate and hasn’t let the Covid-19 pandemic keep her from royal duties.

Last week she was among senior royals to join the Queen at Windsor Castle for a special outing to thank local volunteers and key workers.

Anne’s presence at the royal reunion cemented her status as a much-valued member of the firm whose support is invaluable to the Queen.

Anne is expected to spend Christmas in Gloucestershire with her children Zara and Peter Phillips and four grandchildren.

This year will be particularly special for Anne as her daughter Zara is currently pregnant with her third child.
