Prince Harry ordered a $200 (£144) bespoke 'naked cake' for wife Meghan Markle to celebrate her 40th birthday, according to reports.
The Duchess of Sussex, 40, who recently revealed her plans to ask 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time, reportedly enlisted the help of top celebrity event planner Colin Cowie to organise the celebration at the £10.5million California mansion she shares with Prince Harry.
Meghan was reportedly recommend Colin, who has planned parties for the likes of Jennifer Anniston and Kim Kardashian, by TV host Oprah Winfrey, who interviewed the royal couple in a bombshell interview earlier this year.
The event, held in line with Covid-19 rules, was supposedly a low-key affair in comparison to the $500,000 New York baby shower ahead of son Archie's arrival in 2019.
Meanwhile the Duke of Sussex reportedly ordered a birthday cake from local baker Posies and Sugar, based in Santa Barbara, which specialises in 'naked cakes'. The finish has minimal buttercream to show the sponge and layers for a rustic finish.
The bakery, which was started by a mum named Heather in her Santa Barbara kitchen in 2017, focuses on, 'celebrating life, one sweet treat at a time', according to the Instagram bio.
Taking a look at the designs, the cakes are adorned with beautiful real flowers including daisies and peonies to add a special touch.
The largest cake listed on the website is a three-tiered round cake that serves 30 and is priced at $225 (£162).
"Megan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, her closest friends and family. Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties," a source told The Mirror.
Meanwhile the flavour combinations on the website are truly mouth-watering and include vanilla bean sponge, red velvet and lemon drop along with fresh strawberry frosting, maple cream cheese and fresh berry filling.
Founder Heather, who runs the bakery alongside husband Matt, revealed in an 'about' section on the website: "I believe that the beauty in life is worth celebrating, worth throwing confetti in the air over and eating a slice of cake (or two). I believe in flowers and in being kind to ourselves and in simple, good things like peach pie."
Meghan's guests were reportedly treated to a 'grazing tables' instead of a formal seated dinner with an array of locally-sourced food and wine.
The birthday cake flavour is unknown but Meghan and Harry opted for a delicious combination for their wedding in May 2018.
The royal couple had a lemon and elderflower tiered cake, made by Claire Ptak, the owner of London-based Violet Bakery, which was similarly adorned with pretty fresh flowers and buttercream.
