Dreading going back to the office tomorrow? You’re not alone! Employees reveal the reasons they’re dragging their heels – from facing the boss after a drunk NYE to wearing a bra for the first time ‘in weeks’

  • Anonymous British man asked Reddit users about dreading their return to work
  • Admitted he’s unsure if he can go back to his job making things ‘idiot proof’
  • One response said they embarrassed themselves in front of their boss on NYE
  • Another confessed they aren’t looking forward to being unable to wear pyjamas

Getting back into a routine after taking a break from work to relax and spend time with family is never easy, but as proven by these admissions, it isn’t just the comforts of home that are discouraging some people from returning to the office.

Reddit users from across the UK have taken to the forum to confess the real reasons why they are dreading going back to work after the festive break – including having to get changed out of pyjamas and walking miles to limit exposure to Covid on public transport.

The discussion began after an anonymous man admitted he’s unsure if he can return to a job which involves making things ‘idiot proof’.

Many other responses to the thread admitted they’ve lost passion for their job and aren’t looking forward to being reunited with their colleagues.

The man racked up hundreds of comments from workers who aren’t ready to return to their jobs, after writing: ‘What’s making you dread going back to work on Tuesday? I don’t know if I can go back to ‘making things idiot proof.”

One person commented: ‘Making the painful transition back to pretending to be a normal, functional member of society after a week and bit of being a pyjama wearing slob fuelled by Celebrations and Ferrero Rocher.’

Another wrote: ‘Walking the four miles there and four miles back because I am not allowed a parking spot, can’t cycle (please don’t tell me I can, I really can’t), and the buses are unreliable and full of people with no masks, coughing, going to and from the hospitals’

The thread racked up hundreds of comments with many people admitting they can’t be bothered to wear office attire

A third added: ‘Covid testing… I work in a school and we will be doing Covid testing on all students when we return and I am gifted the job of all the admin that goes with this. That and the 6.30 starts again!

‘That and the usual anxiety and depression about going to a place that I have no passion for anymore but can’t seem to get out of despite trying.’

Many other responses to the thread came from people admitting they don’t want to be around their co-workers.

‘Having to put up with a leadership that are so far out of their depth it’s embarrassing. Nothing but excuses and denial of any issues,’ one wrote.

Another said: ‘Saw boss whilst drunk on NYE and 100 per cent embarrassed myself. it’s gonna be interesting.’

‘Having to face customers and colleagues asking me ‘having a nice Christmas?’ I didn’t. But people don’t want to hear that. And I don’t really want to explain to them why… So I’ll have to say ‘yeah, not bad, quiet one’ and smile politely,’ a third added.

Another confessed they don’t feel equipped to do their job writing: ‘A general dislike for my job.

‘It’s not terrible but I’m suffering a bit of imposter syndrome and I think I’m going to get in to trouble because I’ve not been trained very well and when I have questions I am either ignored or passed to someone else who ignores me or passes me on etc.

‘It’s not the job I thought it would be.’
