People are only just realising that lettuce doesn’t need soil to growMay 18, 2022
People are only just realising that you do not need mud to make lettuce grow after a woman shared a money saving hack.
Having the luxury to purchase our shopping from supermarkets and green grocers means that many people do not grow their own food.
And, if people do not need to have their own vegetable patch it often means that some do not know how it all works.
So after mum-of-four Crystal Jade shared how she grows lettuce in the comfort of her own home, people have been left gobsmacked.
In a TikTok clip that has racked up a whopping 31.5million views, the parent simply cut off the bottoms from some shop bought romaine lettuce.
Crystal then placed the leafy green stalks at the bottom of a bowl and let some tap water pour in.
The mum filled the dinnerware up three quarters of the way so the top of the cut lettuce poked out of the top.
After two days, the lettuce started to grow teeny new leaves which continued to get bigger.
At the two week point, the leaves got even larger and looked as if they were ready to be added to a salad or a sandwich.
Now that is a good way to save cash!
She captioned the viral clip: "Whaaattt I really didn’t know! Did you!?"
Stunned at the trick Crystal learnt from her mother-in-law, many people fled to the comments to share they did not know lettuce could grow out of the soil.
One person gasped: “They brainwashed us into believing we needed seeds!”
Another user added: “Infinite lettuce glitch.”
Whilst a third person praised: “That’s amazing. I have to try.”
Someone else noted: “Pineapple, green onion, celery all do this too.”
And, a fifth person expressed: “So we technically don’t need to buy produce so often… all this time.”
