New mum regrets naming twins after TV characters & worries they’ll be mocked

November 24, 2021

A parent of twins has opened up about the regret she feels over naming her babies – and she’s even thinking about changing them.

At six months old the children had not been officially registered yet meaning it would be simple to register them with a new name.

She admitted she felt “rushed” after giving birth and had been taking tramadol at the time.

Posting on NetMums, she explained that she’d accidentally ended up naming the twins Charlie and Lola – like the popular book and television characters.

She said that she liked both of the names, but felt embarrassed by the TV show reference, reports the Mirror.

She said: "I needed some advice, I have twins which I named Charlie (boy) and Lola.

"Don't get me wrong I love both the names but I feel like a made the wrong decision and I always get awkward reactions when people ask.

"I had doubts originally when I first had them as I had been on Tramdol for days and felt like I may have rushed the decision."

She continued: "I am due to go and register them soon and am feeling under pressure to make a decision by then.

"If I do change a name it will be from Lola to Lila, so only one letter different and not too confusing for anyone, including the baby."

The mum worried that her kids would be bullied or mocked.

She noted: "I am worried about them being laughed at because of the programme 'Charlie and Lola'.

"My partner thinks I'm being ridiculous but I'm the one who spends more time with other parents and children and I always dread peoples reaction when they ask their names."

She reached out to other mums for advice, but most of them told her not to worry about what other people thought.

One person wrote: "I personally think Lola is much nicer than Lila… and more unique too, I seem to see a lot of Layla and Lila but haven’t seen a Lola, I think it’s lovely.

"Of course it’s your decision and as babies haven’t even been registered yet I don’t think it’s too late at all, your little girl won’t realise that was even her name yet and everybody else will get used to it."

While another added: "I'll be honest and say it shouldn't really matter why you named your children what you did, whether it's linked to a TV programme, book or song title or it just jumped out at you as a name you loved, that's totally your business."

A third said: "They're all great names, maybe refer to them as Lola and Charlie? But it's definitely not too late to change your daughters if you prefer Lila. Congratulations!"
