Neighbours’ Billy Kennedy star Jesse Spencer’s life years after soap – including Hollywood career

Given that it spent nearly 40 years on our TV screens, it’s no surprise thatNeighbours saw hundreds of actors come and go on Ramsay Street. And of those who once held Erinsborough close to their hearts,some including Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth went on to find success in Hollywood too.

Among those who used Neighbours to catapult their career on our screens is Jesse Spencer who played Billy Kennedy from 1994. As the second son of Dr Karl and Susan Kennedy, Jesse was part of one of the most famous families on Ramsay Street – and his character proved popular, too.

Before his departure in 2000, the soap star was crowned the Most Popular TV Actor at the Silver Logie Awards in 1999, having also been nominated the year prior.

After saying goodbye to his time on the Australian soap, 44 year old Jesse continued to build on his acting career and made his way onto the big screen. As a film star, he’s appeared in movies including Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning and Winning London with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson.

Meanwhile, Jesse continued to find success on the small screen too. Between 2004 and 2012, he had a recurring role on the medical drama House and between 2012 and 2021 he starred in the police drama Chicago PD.

Fans of Chicago Fire may also recognise Jesse from the show as he spent 11 years working on the show and was even nominated for a Teen Choice Award for his role.

Having reprised his role as Captain Matt Casey during the season 11 finale last year, it’s unclear whether he will return for the next series.

Elsewhere, Jessealso reprised his role as Billy for the Neighbours finale last year. Despite moving to the US to continue his acting career, Jesse was keen to return to his roots for the soap’s send off.

Teasing the news, the Neighbours Twitter account wrote: “SPOILER ALERT. We've got a few more familiar faces making an appearance in the finale”.

Away from his work on our screens, Jesse has been in a relationship with neuroscientist Kali Woodruff Carr since 2014. After getting engaged in 2019, they tied the knot a year later.

Prior to their relationship, Jesse dated singer Louise Griffiths for two years though they split in 2010. He was also engaged to his House co-star Jennifer Morrison though they called time on their relationship in 2007.
