My son has been looking at extreme sexual material onlineJune 2, 2021
DEAR DEIDRE: I’M worried my son will get into trouble after searching for extreme material online.
I searched his browsing history because he is autistic and very secretive, and I was worried about him. He’s 24 and has two younger brothers but lives a solitary life and finds it hard to form friendships or relationships.

I’m a man of 53 and know young men like watching porn, but his internet search terms are shocking – things like “sexual sadism”, “sexual torture” and “snuff porn”.
His behaviour is obsessive, which means he’s on the internet all day, every day.
I’m terrified that one day his dark fantasies will translate into real-life actions, and I want to stop it happening.
If I confront him, he’ll just deny it and change his passwords so I won’t be able to keep tabs on him. Am I over-reacting?
DEIDRE SAYS: Autism is often linked with obsessive behaviour, and the chances are he is just expressing curiosity about sex, but your concern is real.
Please seek expert advice from the National Autistic Society (autism.org.uk).
You can find a specialist therapist near you via the website too.
