Meghan Markle mum ‘will stay home at Christmas after declining royal invitation’December 19, 2018
Meghan Markle’s mum will not join the Royal Family for Christmas this year, it has been reported.
It had been thought Doria Ragland would join the festivities with her daughter and son-in-law at Sandringham.
However, Ms Ragland, 62, has opted to spend the holiday period in California instead after politely declining an invitation from the Queen, People magazine reported.
It is rare for non-members of the royal family to celebrate Christmas Day with the Queen and Meghan’s holiday in Sandringham last year was a rare break with royal protocol.
Kate Middleton spent her final Christmas as a single woman with her family back in 2010, but unlike Kate, Meghan does not have family in the UK.
Earlier this year, it had been claimed Ms Ragland – who is based in Los Angeles – could move into Meghan and Harry’s new home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
Meghan and Harry will be at Sandringham for Christmas with the other royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be looking forward to the festive period, and in particular "spending quality time with Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte".
Earlier this week, Meghan’s dad attempted a reconciliation with his daughter and urged the Queen to get involved to help with the dispute.
He said: “I’m very disappointed by it. I’m not sure why it’s happening and I’m waiting, I’m reaching out.”
Thomas, 74, said: “I would appreciate anything she [the Queen] could do. I would think she would want to resolve family problems.
“All families, royal or otherwise, are the same and they should all be together – certainly around the holidays.”
