McDonald’s menu change 2022 LIVE – Prices RISE & major changes to menu revealed today; what’s new & how do I get it? | The Sun

July 27, 2022

MCDONALD'S has announced a major menu change today, adding a host of brand new snacks and burgers to its fast food menu.

McDonald's will feature Halloumi Fries & two new burgers at all UK & Ireland restaurants from today.

There's also a summery new drink joining them and the meals and snacks all celebrate the cultures of Spain and Cyprus.

The Spicy Spanish Stack features chilli cheddar, red onion & spicy tomato sauce in a warm paprika bun, while the Chicken Fiesta comes with a crispy chicken fillet topped with chorizo and spicy cheddar in a chilli and paprika topped bun.

However, this does mean the Taste of Italy burgers and sides will be coming off the menu immediately to make room for the new products.

What are the McDonald's promotion prices?

The fast-food chain regularly updates its menu, usually every six weeks.

Most recently, Maccies launched its loyalty scheme across all its 1,300 UK outlets.

This follows a pilot which saw the scheme – where customers can earn points and exchange them for free food including Big Macs and McNuggets – tested across 75 select restaurants.

Another great way to save is if you download and use the MyMcdonald's app where you can get a 20% discount on your first order.

MyMcDonald's Rewards is available to all McDonald's app users and customers can now start earning and redeeming their points with the loyalty scheme.

The app also features the MyMcdonald's rewards programme where after your fifth coffee, you can claim a sixth for free.

By using the app you can collect points on each order and later redeem them for rewards in a number of selected restaurants.

Why did McDonald's stop serving breakfast all day?

McDonald's claimed that they stopped serving breakfast all day because the food is cooked differently and they do not have the resources to run two different menus throughout the day.

Their website said: "Items on our breakfast menu are cooked slightly differently and at a different temperature from items on our main menu.

"This means we don't have enough space in our kitchens to accommodate the cooking and preparation of our breakfast and main menus at the same time.

"The 11am cut off enables us to accommodate our breakfast lovers, while allowing customers who enjoy our main menu to get their food before 11.30am."

If you go to other countries such as the United States, you will find that they do serve some breakfast items all day.

Can you get fries during McDonald's breakfast hours?

Unfortunately, if you're in the mood to have some fries with your McDonald's breakfast meal, you cannot.

McDonald's do not start serving fries until after 11am when the normal menu starts along with burgers, nuggets and wraps.

Instead, you can get yourself a hash brown, which is as salty as the traditional McDonald's fries and can be considered everyone's favourite.

Some other snacks that McDonald's have to fill you up in the morning are a cucumber or a melon bag while they also offer a range of sweet treats.

McDonald's fans not happy about price increases

Disappointed fans took to social media to lament the announcement.

Writing on Twitter, one said: "Even a cheeseburger at McDonald's is going up 20p – that's it, UK is doomed."

Another added: "If McDonald's increasing their cheeseburger by 20p doesn't scream cost of living crisis, then I dunno what does."

Cheeseburger rising in price for first time in 14 years

The much-loved 99p cheeseburger will increase in price for the first time in 14 years, and will now cost £1.19.

McDonald's said: "Some prices remain unaffected and some will continue to vary across our restaurants.

"We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could."

McDonald's statement on 'tough choice' to hike prices

A statement from the company reads: "At times like this, we know that providing great value is important.

"Since we opened in the UK in 1974, we’ve committed to offering great tasting food at affordable prices, and that commitment will not change.

"But, today’s pressures mean, like many, we’re having to make some tough choices about our prices.

"This summer, our restaurants will be adding between 10p and 20p to a number of the menu items impacted most by inflation. From today, we’ll be increasing the price of our cheeseburger for the first time in over 14 years, taking it from 99p to £1.19.

"Some prices remain unaffected, and some will continue to vary across our restaurants. We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could.

"We will continue to listen to what you want from us and work tirelessly to find solutions to today’s cost challenges affecting our business."

How much should you eat per day?

The NHS says as a general guide, men should eat around 2,500 calories per day, and women 2,000.

But how much you will need will depend on your size.

Sugar, fat and salt are also important. These are labelled on foods you buy in the shops by colour coding – green is best, while red is worst.

Adults are adviced to limit their sugar, fat and salt to:

    • Sugar: 30g of free/added sugars (those that aren't natural)
    • Saturated fat: 30g for men, and 20g for women
    • Salt: 6g (around one teaspoon

Dietician reveals HEALTHIEST option at McDonald's

Dietician Sarah Schenker recoiled at the huge amount of saturated fat (19g – XXX) in the McDonald's double quarter pounder.

And the salt – 3.2g – is almost half the recommended daily amount, and that’s before fries and potentially sides.

A Filet-O-Fish, on the other hand, is more than half the calories (319 versus 739), and only a tiny 2.3g of saturated fat.

      What's new on the menu?

In June, McDonald's introduced the Taste of Italy Summer Menu as part of its new summer theme – meant to celebrate the great tastes of cultures abroad from the comfort of your local restaurant.

In the first menu, fans sampled the new Italian Stack and the Crispy Chicken Italiano, among other tasty snacks.

But this month, to continue the "summer holiday" feel, fans will able to try the Taste of Spain menu.

It will hit stores on July 27, bringing with it the Spicy Spanish Stack and Chicken Fiesta burgers.

The Spicy Spanish Stack has two beef patties, chilli cheddar, red onion, spicy tomato sauce and lettuce served up in a warm paprika bun.

The Chicken Fiesta comes with a crispy chicken fillet topped
with chorizo, chilli cheddar, spicy tomato sauce, red onion and lettuce
in its own warm toasted chilli and paprika topped bun.

The burgers will cost the same as the Italian two – setting fans back £5.39 each.

Alongside the burgers, you'll also get halloumi fries and a spanish fruit punch drink.

What is the Spanish Fruit Punch drink?

McDonald's is also launching a new drink – Spanish Fruit Punch.

You can grab a fresh cup of the berry and citrus punch for just £2.29. If you want a large, you can also nap one for £2.61.

All of these new additions are on for a limited time and will be available until September 6.

Halloumi fries now on the menu

You'll be able to get Halloumi fries which haven't been on the Maccies menu before.

The crispy snack is making a first-time appearance in the UK for £2.49 on its own or £6.49 for a share box.

The halloumi fries are coated in a light batter, and served with a rich tomato dip.

      Which menu items are going?

In June, the Taste of Italy menu brought a range of new burgers to show, including the Italian Stack and the Crispy Chicken Italiano.

The Sun's Emily Downes said The Italian Stack burger tasted just like a lasagne in a bun.

But, unfortunately, the Taste of Italy burgers and sides will be coming off the menu to make room for the new ones.

That means you have until the end of TODAY to grab these limited items:

      • The Italian Stack – £5.39
      • The Crispy Chicken Italiano – £5.39
      • Mozzarella Dippers – £1.99 single or £5.39 sharebox
